London RHC began the defence of their SECRHA Seniors crown with three wins out of three on Sunday 1st October in Herne Bay.

The team began their day at 5.30am to arrive in time for an 8.40am start in the first SECRHA Seniors Division 1 tournament of the new season.

Maidstone 1 -2 London

In the first game of the day London defeated Maidstone in what was not a close a game as the score suggested. With 80% possession London dominated the game from start to finish, but just couldn’t get into a fluid enough rhythm to test the goalkeeper on enough occasions. After going up 2-0 with goals from Michael Maruszak and Daniele Biancardi London conceded a scrambled late goal, which snuck in under the goalkeeper to leave the last few minutes of the game quite anxious. London however held on, controlled the ball and ran out deserved winners.

Farnham 2-4 London

In their second game London took on Surrey based club Farnham and again controlled the match from start to finish. Going three goals up through Inaki Arroyo, Joel De Figueiredo and Marc Gonzalez with some excellent team goals, the Dragons were sailing before a clash between goalkeeper and player, saw the ball bounce off a knee and into the net for 3-1. London got their fourth a minute later through Arroyo, before an individual defensive error saw the game finish 4-2. London controlled the game and gave away minimal chances, although it became scrappier than we would have wished.

Herne Bay 1-9 London

In the final game of the day London defeated the home team in what was a relatively straight-forward victory. Patient play and team goals, as well as some individual brilliance meant that London beat the hosts to top the league from the first tournament. Goals from Biancardi (4), De Figueiredo, Arroyo (2), Maruszak (2) ensured a good win.

Thank you to our hosts Herne Bay and we look forward to the next tournament.
